sidelock S/S shotgun Hans Piffl - Baden, 12/70, #3650, § C

Starting price 3.500 EUR
not sold

70 cm barrels, flat engine-turned rib, ejectors, choked 1/4 & 1/2, hidden third grip, bright action, engraved with shaded medium scroll and blooming roses, back-action sidelocks, intercepting sears, disc-set strikers, gas vents, automatic sliding tang safety, double triggers with articulated front blade, grained walnut stock, very fine chequering, straight hand, horn buttplate 36,5 cm with negative pitch, elongated fore-end with Anson-push-rod, year of manufacture 1963, Belgian and Viennese proof, except slight marks of use at the stock condition 2. Hans Piffl was head of the workshop at Joh. Springer's Erben in Vienna, when these stopped building break actions he set up his own shop in Baden bei Wien. The gun, made from Belgian raw parts, is designed in the typical Springer Best Quality style, e.g. the shape of the top lever or the rolled trigger guard. The other two workmen involved, the engraver Herbert Winkler and the stockmaker Hans Jiricek, have also been colleagues from the Springer workshop, so the design of the engraving echoes works of the master engraver Matzinger, to whom Winkler was apprenticed, and the stock is highly individualised, typical for the work of Hans Jiricek. Very fine "No Name" gun for connoisseurs!
