76 cm smooth octagonal barrel of blued iron, engraved with the maker's name and silver inlaid ribbons on the breech, dovetailed front sight, adjustable rear sight, removed aperture sigh base on the tang, opening push-button shaped like a panther's head, sprung to expose the loading breech, iron furniture with fine engravings, brass finger rest and hooked buttplate 32 cm, artistically carved walnut fullstock with rocailles and chimeras, sloping cheekpiece, inlaid with a finely engraved griffin with a snake, made of mother-of-pearl, on the right thumb rest, blank mother-of-pearl escutcheon on the butt, recess for a crank on thr right hand side of the butt, double set hneedle trigger, original cleaning rod, 111 cm total length, 3,7 kg, year of manufacture about 1840, buttstock with small old repair, otherwise great condition II. Pet(t)ter Volkmann is recorded in 1842 as master gunsmith in Vienna and Budapest, he was specialised in Windbüchsen (airguns), see HEER - Der neue Stoeckel volume 2 page 1335).
