W. J. Jeffery became famous by adapting this old blackpowder cartridge by shortening and strengthening the case to Nitro use. Quickly it became the most favourite universal cartridge for dangerous big game. W. D. M. Bell started his carrer with such a rifle, John Taylor had nothing but praise for it in his book "African Rifles and Cartridges", and it also was never missing in Jim Corbett's battery, acc.ounting for 33 meneating cats with such a rifle alone. Recently re-introduced as well by Hornady as by Ruger, this legendary calibre got a new lease on life. The rifle on offer was made in the year of the introduction of this cartridge to the market, making it not only a highly collectable item, but for its great preservation it is still waiting after almost 120 years to do its intended service as a trustworthy companion when after dangerous game!
