36 cm barrels of browned twist Damascus, on top gold inlaid inscribed with "Commendador Don Carlos Du Villards" for the owner, rifled barrel on top with deep lead rifling, dovetailed front sight of nickel silver, standing rear sight with 2 additional folding leaves, lower shotgun barrel with lateral blunderbuss muzzle allowing for quick reloading, probably nickel plated lock parts, back-action hammer locks, engraved with scroll surrounded game bird scenes, flat hammers, double triggers, elongateder trigger guard in English style, engraved with a stag, walnut buttstock (no fore-end) with en-suite engraved steel buttplate 36,5 cm engraved with a fox's head, against the sporting style decorations weapons of this type were primarilly used for self defence in close quarters, Carlos Du Villards (1800 - 1860), a born Frenchman, made his career as an eye doctor and did not only practise for the Royal Court of Sardinia, but became famous as the founder of the Ophthalmologic Institute of Brazil in Rio de Janeiro, year of manufacture around 1850, condition II.
