Obviously a commercial luxury version of this carbine designed by Frank Wesson (1828 - 1899) being the first breech loader for metallic self-contained cartridges. The first type of this rifle was already in use during the American Civil War where it became notorious for stuck cases as it lacked an extractor. acc.ording to the serial number, this improved second type has been made presumably in 1863 or 1864. A historic original from the early days of metal cartridges in extraordinary preservation, condition II.
