34 cm smooth octagonal breeched barrels tapering to round muzzles made of rose Damascus,breech ends and muzzles inlaid with silver wire and gold washed maker’s marks, silver wire inlaid scroll on barrels, numbered “1” and “2” on the tangs, flat lock plates, deep relief engraved with Mars surrounded by trophies, signed “J. Pauer in Viennan (sic)”, chiselled cocks, rocaille and scroll carved walnut full stocks with dark horn tips, furniture of fire-gilt brass with deep relief engraving, walnut wood ramrods with horn tip, OAL 52 cm. Johann Joseph Bauer (Pauer) is registered as gunmaker in Vienna between 1708 and 1744 and became master of the guild in 1744, see Heer “Der neue Stöckel”. year of manufacture about 1730, comdition II-III.
