Standard pistol of the Imperial Japanese Armed Forces in the period before World War II, replaced in 1925 by the Type 14 of the Nambu („Papa Nambu“) system. The weapon, also referred to as Type 4 or A, was developed by Japanese weapons designer Major Nambu Kijir, who held the rank of general when he retired.
