Holland & Holland is one of the top manufacturers in the world and if you were to name Best Guns only a handful, the London would be guaranteed a place without further ado. Going back to the tobacco manufacturer Harris Holland who founded the company in 1835. In 1836 they moved to 98 New Bond Street in London. After his nephew Henry joined the company and worked there for several years, it finally became Holland & Holland (H&H) in 1876. The later part of the 19th century was a period marked by highly varied and at the same time fertile developments in the gunsmith's trade. In 1885, the company obtained the rights to use the term Royal on its products, which came into use for its premium shotguns. The collaboration of Henry Holland and John Robertson (later owner of Boss) resulted in their own sidelocks and further developed ejectors or the manually removable sidelocks created with Thomas Woodward in 1908. During the two world wars, the company, like many others, was involved in the manufacture of weapons for military use. In the post-war period, the company re-formed under owner Malcom Lyell (Westley Richards) in 1959. The focus always remained in the area of hunting and luxury weapons, at the same time one helped oneself also with the sales of prominently used weapons from repurchased previous possession of Indian princes. W.J. Jeffery (1956) and W. C. Scott & Son (1985) were acquired. Finally, in 1989, the Chanel Group acquired the historic London manufacturer. Today, many of H&H's innovations can be seen in the applications of other manufacturers. The sidelocks are a popular and reliable system base. A number of developed cartridges can also be traced back to Holland & Holland, including the calibres .375 H&H Magnum or .700 Nitro Express, which are particularly well known. Since February 2021, Holland & Holland is now fully owned by Beretta Holding SA.
