Valmet stands for a Finnish conglomerate that was originally formed as a merger in the metal industry. Valtion Metallihetaat, or Valment for short, stood for State Metal Works. In addition to weapons, the manufacturing sector also included vehicles, aircraft and agricultural equipment. The weapons division was merged into Sako (now part of the Beretta Group) before the turn of the millennium. Valmet's weapons production ranged from military weapons to modern sporting and hunting weapons.
