A kind of pinfire pistol Augustin Mod. 1851 cal. 18,3 mm serial #953 category § unrestricted

Starting price 600 EUR
Result:
750 EUR

Barrel length 25,1 cm (10"), overall length 42,3 cm (16,6"), weight 1,55 kg, year of manufacture 1853, condition 3.
Austrian cavalry pistol, double eagle and "853" for year of manufacture 1853 on lock plate, almost illegible due to chemical cleaning. The Augustin priming system, much like its system Console predecessor, was fairly unique in gun history. Instead of a cap as in the usual percussion weapons with a piston, the ignition of the powder charge was accomplished by a small tube turned from fine copper or brass sheet and filled with the priming charge. This was inserted into the side of the lock and acted upon by the hammer via a converter.
