The gun itself in good original condition including good barrel with scratches in the bluing on the underside. Legal German proof "double crown over U".
The C96 was introduced by the German Army during WWI as a reserve weapon, originally in the original 7.63mm Mauser caliber. Due to ammunition standardization with the Pistol 08, the caliber was changed to 9 mm Luger for German Army weapons in 1916, with a red painted "9" on the grip panels to distinguish it. The model was given the name C96/16.
