Barrel length 76 cm (30"), stock length 34 cm (13.5"), overall length 118 cm (46.5"), made about 1830, condition 3.
Ribbon and rose damascus barrels, generous gold and silver inlays at barrel root, smooth bore rail inlaid with gold "Joseph Contriner K:K: Land: Privile: Büchsenmacher=Meister in Wien", dolphin shaped hammers with small gold inlays, lockplates elaborately engraved and with inlaid double eagle gold medallion, on tang gold inlaid number "1" as part of a pair, hallmarked grip, carved horn finger rest, bearded edge trigger guard, iron recoil cap, cleaning rod.
Joseph Contriner was born in Assling/Tyrol and began his apprenticeship in Vienna in 1789. In 1817 he became a master gunsmith. In the guild he was a member from 1810 - 1836, and in 1840 and 1848 he was appointed K.K. appraiser.
