The name Sodia is one of the traditional ones in Austrian gunsmithing history. In 1870 Anton Sodia founded a business in Unterferlach. One of his sons, Franz I, eventually moved to Ferlach in 1910 to establish a gunsmith workshop. Growing from a manufactory and further processing of semi-finished products to a small factory, he also manufactured hunting rifles there together with his son Franz II from 1929. Franz II finally took over the company in 1935 after the death of his father. The history of the company is characterized by change. At its peak, the company employed over 100 people and produced large quantities in its own factory. In the 60's and 70's the company expanded its branch network. The three locations were finally divided among the sons Werner (Salzburg), Klaus (St. Pölten) and Franz III (Ferlach) in 1973. The size of the factory eventually took its toll - so the doors in Ferlach closed in the 1980s. Today, Werner and Reinhold Sodia continue to operate the successor companies in Salzburg and Vienna, which focus on trade and services.
